Artist Statement: Wild Plum
What drew me to the wild plum bonsai was its erratic, twisting trunk structure—a testament to its rustic age and resilience. The gnarled form speaks of time, endurance, and weathered beauty, embodying nature’s untamed spirit. Yet, every year, this rugged structure bursts into life, adorned with warm white blossoms that radiate elegance and renewal.
This contrast between age and rejuvenation, roughness and delicacy, captivated me. Through this pastel work, I sought to capture that duality—the rugged, untamed trunk harmonizing with the fleeting beauty of its blossoms. The image symbolizes nature’s ability to persist and transform, reminding us of the quiet yet profound cycle of growth and renewal.

Bonsai embodies balance, harmony, and the beauty found in nature’s simplicity. My latest series of pure pastel artworks celebrates these qualities, capturing the elegance of bonsai trees in vivid, expressive color.
