I did this pleinair painting at a quiet corner at the lower pond of the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Diego. I tried to find a peaceful where the harmony of the garden balances light and shadow. The light was echoing from the background wall to the foreground scrubs. I felt a great richness of color at this location.
I make my oil paintings are from professional grade oil paints. I allow the brilliance of the colors to enhance the view and emotion of the work. The goal is to express the Southern California light and the feeling of the day in which I painted it.
