Description
This is a relief print from a series that I have created by visiting and painting specific locations at Huntington beach’s Shipley Nature Center. At each location I create a series of pleinair paintings, large painting and charcoal drawing, pastel drawing and prints. This print was and effort to ‘get into’ the foliage such that you are surrounded by nature. The path shows the way, but the energy of the environment is present and felt deeply.
Linocut is a relief process, which is to say you carve into linoleum (I use battle ship linoleum) thus creating areas of relief that will not print when you apply ink to the surface. The result is a dramatic scene contrasted by the black ink and white of the paper. In addition there is an embossing effect that you only get with this process and not found on printing through a machine. My hope is that the tactility of the embossing and luster of the ink creates an exciting effect for the purchaser of these prints.
