Description
This is an original charcoal drawing from a series that I have created by visiting and studying specific locations at Huntington Beach’s Shipley Nature Center. At each location I create a series of pleinair paintings throughout the year, then I create the following year large paintings and charcoal drawings, pastel drawings and prints. This charcoal drawing was done from the trail in the center where you are surrounded by the the plant folliage. Shipley Nature Center is dedicated to preserving the landscape as it was by only allowing indigenous plants to flourish there and though it is tended to it still helps one feel the nature of the Southern California unblemished landscape.
Charcoal drawing consist of vine, compressed and pencil charcoal materials. The image is created by adding and removing the charcoal until the image is draw to my standards. The result is a dramatic scene contrasted by the black charcoal and white of the paper. My hope is that the tactility of the original markmaking and luster of the charcoal creates an exciting effect for the purchaser of these drawing.
